As a result of prolonged clashes in the province of Suwayda in southern Syria, an agreement has been announced between the government forces and the opposition forces. The agreement presupposes the introduction of a ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities in this region.
According to local sources, as a result of the clashes, several dozen people were killed, including civilians. The sides of the conflict reached an agreement after active negotiations and mediation by elders from different tribes living in the province.
One of the participants in the armed clashes was the Druze militia, which controls a significant part of the territory of Suwayda province. Representatives of the militia stated that they are ready to abide by the terms of the agreement and cease hostilities.
After the agreement was concluded, both sides began the process of withdrawing armed groups from areas where clashes previously took place. It is also planned to start the process of restoring damaged infrastructure in the regions and providing assistance to affected civilians.
In turn, local residents expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement will mark the beginning of a prolonged process of peaceful resolution of the conflict in Suwayda province.
